Help / Pattern library
Pattern library
Your full collection of patterns in one place — authored in Mantis, saved from the chart editor, or tracked as a paper pattern. Organize, search, and launch into cooking mode or the authoring tool from here.
Quick start
One page to get you going.
- Open
/libraryfrom the top nav. Every pattern you own is listed here — authored in Mantis, saved from the chart editor, or tracked as a metadata-only record. - Click Create new to open the chart editor. Draw your chart, tag its rows, then save it to your library.
- Click any pattern card to open its detail page. From there you can Edit (authoring tool or chart editor), Cook (follow it stitch by stitch), or fill in yarn and hook details.
- Use the left sidebar to filter by folder, tag, or yarn weight. Sort by newest updated, created date, or A–Z.

Pattern types
The library includes current charts and older saved records:
- Authored in Mantis — older structured patterns. When no drawn chart is attached, Edit opens the authoring view. The pattern has structured data — stitch counts, row metadata — and can be cooked stitch by stitch.
- Chart Editor — built in the canvas editor and saved to your library from there. The Edit button opens the chart editor. Row tags and declarations support written instructions and count checks. Charts can also open in cooking mode.
- Tracked — metadata-only record for a paper pattern or a pattern you bought elsewhere. No chart or text stored; just name, designer, yarn weight, hook size, notes, and source URL.
Adding a pattern
Start a new pattern in the chart editor:
- Draw it — draw and tag a chart, then save it to your library.
- Older tracked records remain in the library. Creating new metadata-only records is not currently offered.
Folders and tags
Folders live in the left sidebar. Create one with the + New folder button. Assign a pattern to a folder from its detail page — open the folder picker and check the folders you want. A pattern can belong to multiple folders. Folders are personal: they’re not shared with anyone else and don’t affect the pattern itself.
Tags are free-text labels you set on the pattern detail page. Use them for stitch type, season, project size, difficulty — whatever system makes sense to you. Tags appear in the library filter sidebar.
Pattern detail page
The detail page is the hub for one pattern. Key things you can do here:
- Edit metadata — name, designer, source URL, yarn weight, hook size, notes. Use Save changesto save the metadata form.
- Folder assignment — the folder picker is on the detail page. You can also create a new folder inline without leaving the page.
- Designer permissions — a read-only panel showing what the designer has allowed. Personal use (reading, cooking) is always permitted regardless of the settings shown.
Saving and sync
Patterns sync across all your devices via Supabase. Sign in on your iPad and your library is there. Changes made on one device appear on others after the next load.
The library needs an internet connection — offline support is on the roadmap but isn’t built yet. Edits to metadata require a connection to save.
Troubleshooting
Cook button is missing on a pattern. The Cook button appears on crochet records containing a chart or structured pattern data. Metadata-only records cannot be cooked. Views depend on the available data; tag rows for reliable row order and counts.
I can’t find a pattern I added. Check the filter sidebar — a yarn weight or folder filter may be hiding it. Clear all filters with the reset button and sort by Created date to find recent additions.
